Week 27 / Little Olive Update

We have hiccups! So neat. I was sitting on the couch after dinner, and bub was awake and moving as usual. After bub settled into their chosen position, they went still... aside from a very regular little 'twitch' that I felt at 2 second intervals. It lasted for a minute or two! It was pretty neat to feel, and Ben was able to feel it as well. It's evidence that bub is practising breathing in there. Go bubba!

In other baby news, Ben and I have started looking at what we'll need more closely, and have started ticking a few more things off the list. I had a 30% off voucher for an Ergobaby 360 Carrier (which I have already been recommended to look at, and have heard nothing but good things), it'll be great for when we go out and about, including dog walks. I'm really hoping to stay as mobile as possible when bub is young – it's great exercise, I'll be needing my outdoor time and I want them to get used to travelling around. Fingers crossed I am able!

We've had our eye on a variety of cots, especially ones that convert into small beds, but you just can't beat Ikea prices! Getting a cot and then a kids bed is half the price of a convertible cot/bed. I watched this video on how Ikea test their cots, and it gave me confidence to use them. I've seen so many great deals on Gumtree (the Aus equivalent to TradeMe) for baby gear too, especially from people who are moving house and are trying to get rid of any extra furniture ASAP. We aren't getting a bassinet (just a cot), but I found a Moses basket for just $15! It looks to be in great condition, so will just need a thorough clean. Even if it's not as nice as in the listing photos, it's only $15, no great loss. And it means we'll be able to move the basket around the house in the early days, so bub can always sleep by me. At night we'll put the basket in the cot, which will be in our room.

How far along?
27 weeks. Oh my gosh, third trimester next week! I'm starting to feel it, too. More aches and pains, and just feeling more massive in general, ha! Not that it's a bad thing, it's just a funny feeling to adjust to.

Symptoms
...aaaaand in come the aches and pains. Getting a sore back after standing for too long, sore tailbone, and sore hips sometimes at night. Leg cramps at night that cause me to spring out of bed and lean against our dresser (which freaks Ben out a bit, oops). That lovely heartburn creeps in some afternoons/evenings, but it encourages me to drink more fluids, so it's kind of a good thing! These things aren't getting in my way though, I feel really good overall.

Maternity clothes
Singlets, shorts, gym pants and maternity dresses – nothing new.

Stretch marks
I thought I saw some last week but it was a false alarm.

Sleep
Still sleeping with a pillow under my tummy and between my legs, which is helping my tummy and hips feel more comfortable at night. Sometimes I wake up lying on my back, so I just roll over and keep sleeping.

Best moment this week
Ben and I went on a fun exploring adventure on Sunday. Public transport is super cheap on Sunday with a transport card (I think it's $2.50 max) so we ferried over to Lunar Park, trained further north to the Macquarie Centre, then trained back over the bridge and walked around to Mrs Macquarie's Chair, and walked home! It was a lot of walking but a lovely day. I'll pop some snaps below.

Worst moment this week
Budgeting!

Movement
As I mentioned, hiccups! I felt them very low which is a sign that bub's head is still lurking down there.

Food cravings
Nope.

Anything making you feel sick or queasy?
Not anymore.

Gender
No clue, not even an inkling! Perhaps boy? But either will be so lovely.

Belly button in or out?
Still hanging in there.

Happy or moody?
Feeling good!

Looking forward to...
Ben's birthday tomorrow! We're hoping to go to Ribs 'n Burgers with some of his workmates.

This week's tune:
Love this cover that Daughter did of Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky', so good.

    1. Gotta love Ikea, you just can't beat them on price. There's this lovely lady who is selling pretty much every single baby thing she has in preparation to move out, so Ben and I are going to get a great deal on all sorts of things!
