Week 26 / Little Olive Update
It's December, and it's summer! The best time of year. This morning Ben pulled our Christmas box down from the top of the wardrobe, so I'll be able to have a little fun decorating later (listening to Snoopy's Christmas of course!). We don't have a tree this year – in New Zealand Ben made one out of recycled wood, but because of the materials we were unable to bring it over. That's alright though, we'll be able to enjoy everyone else's trees when we visit New Zealand in a few weeks!
On Monday I had the dreaded glucose intolerance test. In Australia it's standard to have a 2 hour version of this procedure, where you have three blood tests in that time. That's right, three. Because my blood levels have pretty much doubled by this stage of pregnancy, I didn't find the needles made me woozy at all (which is usually the case!). Or perhaps I'm just well and truly used to being prodded by now. I think I only have a couple more needles to go this pregnancy.
Speaking of which, it also seems to be the 'thing' here to the whooping cough vaccination, but not just the mama – the partner, family and friends that are visiting baby within the first 8 weeks are all recommended to get their shots up to date, too. I'm not sure if they worry about that in New Zealand.
_________
How far along?
26 weeks. About 14 weeks until baby comes! I feel like my tummy is growing so much lately.
Symptoms
Sore tailbone.
Maternity clothes
Dresses and gym clothes. That is all. I do need some more underwear though (not sure whether bub is growing in my yummy or my bottom! Both are growing!). I've put on 6.5kg so far this pregnancy, which my doc was happy with. I'm not bothered by the numbers but it is kind of funny to see how high they are getting! Still eating well (mostly), doing yoga and walking every day.
Stretch marks
I thought I might have seen the beginning of some little red marks on my tummy, but I'll have to check again later.
Sleep
It's pretty warm at night now, so I just sleep with the sheet on. I have a long bed pillow which I've started using under my tummy and between my legs, which is helping my tummy and hips feel more comfortable at night. Still waking up quite a bit though.
Best moment this week
Yesterday I had a midwife appointment. This time she was able to have a feel around and tell me where bub was sitting! He/she is currently head down, bum up, which is interesting as bub was in this position at our 20 week scan. I wonder if they are quite content to just hang out that way? But anyway, I always love these appointments! And I find what the midwives do to be fascinating.
Worst moment this week
Can't think of any!
Movement
Definitely feeling more 'squirmy' movements now as bub grows. Last night I ate something sweet (see below, haha!) and bub was moving like crazy afterwards. Really makes you think about just how potent sugar is, and how it effects you.
Food cravings
Soooo... I really wanted the taste of sweetened condensed milk last night. So I set about making some fudge, thinking Ben could maybe take some in to his work. However the fudge was a fail! Too soft. It's fine to eat chilled, but not suitable to give away. Ben thinks I should chuck it out as he isn't a sweet tooth and I'll just end up eating the whole thing! He's totally right, I have no self control.
Anything making you feel sick or queasy?
Not anymore.
Gender
It's a surprise! But had another person guess it was a boy. I haven't had a single girl guess – it will be so funny if it does come out a girl after all.
Belly button in or out?
Still hanging in there.
Happy or moody?
Happy – it's nearly Christmas, it's summer, I'm having a baby in three months, yep things are pretty good. Also feeling so much more settled living in Sydney all the time.
Looking forward to...
Yoga tonight.
This week's tune:
This very cool tune called All Out War.
