Week 16 / Little Olive Update

OK, so I feel like my tummy has definitely started popping out this week. So strange! I mean, it's to be expected, but the whole front of my torso has changed a lot. I feel like this area is a lot 'thicker' in general, starting from just below my bust, down to my pelvic bone – that whole front area is a lot more 'out' than usual.

In other news, I had my first midwife appointment at the Birth Centre! Up until this point, I've been going to my doctor once a month. But from now on, I'm going to continue seeing the midwives. This is for a couple of reasons: it's an opportunity for me to keep visiting the place where we plan on having baby and get comfortable there, and also, I can get more familiar with all the midwives there, some of which will be helping me on the 'big day'!

_________

How far along?
16 weeks, and check out that tummy. I've definitely put on a bit of weight over the weeks which might be helping my tummy along!

Symptoms
I've had a lot of energy this week, no need for naps! Also, the night time queasiness I used to get is rare these days. This week has introduced a new symptom which I've never experienced (ever) – heartburn! Lovely.

Maternity clothes
Them maternity jeans. And loose tops.

Stretch marks
No.

Sleep
Sleeping has been fine, but still having weird experiences in dream land. I dreamt that Juno (our dog) doubled as a handbag. You could open her and store all kinds of things in there, and then close her up and she was good to go! Hmm...

Best moment this week
Midwife appointment! I saw the lovely Karen who (thankfully) also checked bub's heartbeat with a doppler. It was chugging away like a steam train at 150bpm. Honestly, it's the loveliest sound to hear! I was walking on sunshine for the rest of the day. Karen told me about an old wive's tale in determining the baby gender, saying that if the heart sounds like a horse it's a girl, and a steam train indicates a boy. She guessed a boy, but I guess time will tell!

Worst moment this week
Still sorting through so much house stuff. Slowly getting organised.

Movement
Maybe... sometimes I imagine little tappity-taps, as light as anything. But it's too light to know for sure!

Food cravings
I've been chugging down the milk like there's no tomorrow. How I wish I could eat sashimi and sushi! I might try and make my own fresh sushi if this persists.

Anything making you feel sick or queasy?
Japanese noodles at Ippudo. I hate this question cause it makes me think about it!

Gender
No idea! Midwife guessed a boy.

Belly button in or out?
Innie.

Happy or moody?
Happy as a clam after the midwife appointment. Nice to feel carefree about bub for a while!

Looking forward to...
Seeing my step-dad Phil and his mum Norma – they're coming over to Sydney briefly.

This week's tune:
Still thrashing Bat For Lashes, love her song Travelling Woman.
