Week 17 / Little Olive Update

Haha, Ben needs to stop making me giggle when he's taking my picture! This is me trying to keep a straight face. I watched a really interesting documentary this week called The Business of Being Born. While it's focused on the system in America, there were some elements of the doco that really encouraged my thoughts on trying for a natural birth. But anyway, on to the update!

_________

How far along?
17 weeks. Still a while to go yet, but crazy to think that I'll be half way in 3 weeks. What!

Symptoms
Energy is still pretty good, though I did have a couple of naps and have been a bit sluggish in the morning. And that pesky heartburn is still being a bother in the evenings, but it's not annoying enough to do anything about just yet.

Maternity clothes
Same as usual, maternity jeans and then my loose tops. Apparently we're about to have a 4-day heatwave where the temps are going to be in the 30's, so I might try out some of the light ASOS maternity dresses I picked up! Being pregnant in summer is going to be interesting, especially since it'll be my first Sydney summer, but I plan on just living in dresses and not much else. Hopefully that'll keep me cool when out and about.

Stretch marks
No.

Sleep
More weird dreams, I was trying to remember one but I can't remember it at all now. I had a baby boy in it, maybe my midwife's gender guess swayed my dream!

Best moment this week
It was awesome to see Phil and Norma last week, even just briefly. Also, I've met up with one of my mum's oldest and dearest friends a couple of times recently – and she is a midwife! So she's been amazing, giving me some books to borrow and being a soundboard for any questions. I've also seen her daughter Tessa who is such a delightful young woman. Looking forward to seeing these two more often.

Worst moment this week
Ben and I were trying to cook dinner (delicious Moroccan lamb pizzas, topped with greek yoghurt and herbs, mmm!) when the whole inner oven basically fell apart. Oh my gosh it was so frustrating! We love cooking dinner together but our kitchen here is insanely tiny, and when you're having an oven incident and your hangry, well, it just gets to you. But if that's the worst thing from the week then I guess it's been a pretty good week.

Movement
Yes! Those taps I started feeling are becoming more apparent. I was only feeling a very faint tap every few days, but now I usually feel it at least once a day. Last night it felt so strong that I put Ben's hand on my tummy to feel it, but he couldn't tell. Guess it's still a bit too early for it to be felt externally yet. But wow, it's so amazing to feel... if that is what it is!

Food cravings
Baked goods like muffins. In fact I made some this week and they disappeared pretty quick, whoops. Also been wanting ice cold fruit smoothies for breaky, which is timely as I have my food processor unpacked now. Must be the warmer weather. Drinking lots of milk, too.

Anything making you feel sick or queasy?
Japanese noodles at Ippudo. Blerch.

Gender
No clue.

Belly button in or out?
Innie.

Happy or moody?
Pretty happy I'd say!

Looking forward to...
The long weekend, will be lovely having an extra day with Ben. Also my New Zealand trip is next week! Will be awesome to spend the weekend there. I'm excited to catch up with family and friends, but I'm really missing my grandma at the moment!

This week's tune:
Getting into the Kiwi vibes with Fat Freddy's Drop, Blackbird.
